Volunteers needed to support Afghan allies in NC Triangle area

LSC’s refugee services program in Raleigh is working hard to serve an influx of Afghans. Your help is needed in the following areas:

Housing

If you have an apartment or house you can offer to house Afghans served by LSC, that would be a tremendous help. Currently, some arrivals are living in hotels, and that living situation is less than ideal for many reasons. If you have extra bedrooms in your own home and would be willing to share your space with those in great need, we would love to talk to you.

Clothing and supplies

  • Coats of all sizes (softly used or new, please)
  • Different sizes of undergarments (girls, boys, men’s and women’s underwear)
  • Non-perishable food items (canned or dried goods including beans, lentils, chickpeas, rice, vegetables)
  • Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, shaving cream, feminine hygiene pads)
  • Baby items, including bottles, sippy cups, pull-ups for toddlers, baby formula. (We have diapers covered.)
  • Items for kids (crayons, coloring books, etc.) — non-essential but nice to have.

If your church or organization would like to sponsor a drive to collect some of the above items, or if you would like to help in another way, please let us know!

Donating to an emergency fund to support these Afghan allies is also a great way to help, with the money going to rent and food and other necessary items. You can donate here.

Please send an email to NCRefugee@LSCarolinas.net if you can help!
