For Cynthia Chappell, working at Lutheran Services Carolinas (LSC) isn’t just a job – it’s a ministry.
Chappell, a lead clinical specialist in LSC’s South Carolina Foster Care program, has been dedicated to the organization for 25 years.
“What truly keeps me here is the children and families we serve, but honestly, it’s my teammates,” Chappell said. “It’s not about the money at Lutheran Services Carolinas – it’s about the ministry. It’s about the staff and the clients we’re here to support.”
As a lead clinical specialist in the Pee Dee/Midlands region, Chappell collaborates closely with the South Carolina Department of Social Services to ensure children in LSC’s care experience as normal a life as possible while in foster care. She emphasizes that reuniting children with their families is always the ultimate goal.
“I love working with families and getting to know not only the foster parents but also the kids. I enjoy learning about their likes, dreams, and aspirations. It inspires me to see them so happy,” Chappell said. “Working in foster care has allowed me to meet incredible people from all walks of life. Watching children grow and thrive under the care of our foster parents is truly rewarding.”
Looking to the future, Chappell is excited about the continued growth of LSC’s programs.
“I’m blown away by how far we’ve come,” she said. “We started so small, and now we have so many programs and so many incredible people from all different backgrounds working here. That’s what excites me most.”
