Scholarship and service: LSC and teammates grow together

Congratulations to the 20 teammates who received a total of $65,966 in scholarships from LSC for the 2024-2025 academic year! Through four different scholarship programs, 12 teammates will advance their nursing degrees, five will pursue master’s degrees, and three will work toward other professional degrees. LSC’s scholarship programs are designed to help talented teammates advance their careers and enhance our service to clients and residents.

“LSC is committed to lifelong learning and growth,” said LSC President and Chief Executive Officer Ted W. Goins, Jr. “We are thrilled that our 20 scholarship-winning teammates are growing to better themselves and our organization.”

Grady Scholarship

Established through a bequest from the late E. B. Grady, Jr., this scholarship supports the professional advancement of teammates on the Trinity Oaks campus.

The Grady Scholarship recipient for 2024 is Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Billie Marie Logsdon, of Trinity Oaks health and rehab, who is studying to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN) at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.

Hollar Scholarships

Bryce Hollar established this award in 2011 in memory of his wife, the late Margie Hefner Hollar, and as a tribute to her caregivers at Lutheran Home – Hickory, now called Trinity Village. The Hollar Scholarship helps LSC’s direct-care teammates pursue additional education that will advance their ability to care for LSC clients.

Nine teammates received Hollar Scholarships this year:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) Angela Blanton of Trinity Grove, who is studying for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at University of North Carolina – Wilmington and Cape Fear Community College;
  • Trinity Glen teammate Tracy Davis, LPN, who is working toward RN licensure at Winston-Salem State University;
  • Denesha Jarrett-Mitchell of LSC’s Myrtle Beach, South Carolina New Americans Program, pursuing a Master of Science in Clinical Health through Capella University;
  • Carlos Rondón León of LSC’s Transitional Foster Care program for Unaccompanied Children, who is pursuing a Master of Social Work degree at the University of South Carolina in Columbia;
  • Jasmine Lindsey of LSC’s Assertive Community Treatment Team in Chapel Hill, studying toward a Master of Social Work degree through Delaware State University;
  • Jessica Mangum, LPN, of Trinity Village, who is pursuing RN licensure at McDowell Community College;
  • Daniel Thompson of LSC’s Asheville, North Carolina New Americans Program, studying for a Master of Social Work at Western Carolina University in Asheville; and
  • Liz Warner of Trinity Ridge and Jay Hoke of Trinity Village, both LPNs studying for their RN licenses at Catawba Valley Community College.
LSC Scholarships

The LSC Scholarship supports qualified teammates whose studies will enhance their ability to grow with LSC. Recipients for 2024 include:

  • Casspian Beach, a cook at Trinity Ridge who is studying Culinary Arts at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute;
  • LSC Teammate Services Specialist Cora Ingle, who is pursuing a degree in Organizational Communications from Wingate University;
  • Fatma Mohamed of LSC’s Raleigh, North Carolina, New Americans Program, who is working toward a Paralegal Certificate at Wake Tech; and
  • Trinity Ridge Administrator Hannah Huffman, who is earning her Master of Health Administration degree from Appalachian State University.
Nursing Scholarships

The LSC Nursing Tuition Program is available to any teammate in any department at a nursing or assisted living facility who wishes to pursue a community college degree in nursing. There is no requirement for length of service at LSC, and teammates who work in other LSC locations or programs may transfer to a senior care facility in order to apply.

Nursing Scholarship recipients for 2024 include Gloria Evans, LPN, of Aston Park, who is studying toward her RN licensure at Spartanburg Community College, as well as five CNAs who are pursuing their LPN licensure:

  • Jane Fowler of Trinity Grove, a student at Cape Fear Community College;
  • Tilder Jane Hunt of GlenFlora, studying at Bladen Community College;
  • Sadie Jarvis of Trinity Village, attending Western Piedmont Community College;
  • CNA and Medical Assistant Crystal Chamberlain of Trinity Ridge, enrolled at Catawba Valley Community College; and
  • CNA and Medical Assistant JaPrella Lee of Trinity Elms health and rehab, who attends ECPI University.

Scholarship applications are announced in the Scuttlebutt teammate newsletter and are due on June 1 of each year.
