LSC’s Transitional Living for Young Adults program has received a $10,000 grant from Aflac, housed at Central Carolina Community Foundation.
The grant will support young adults transitioning out of foster care in South Carolina. As a population, this group faces huge challenges. By the age of 19, 25 percent are homeless and one in four young women has a child of her own, and by 21, 35 percent are not employed or in school and 40 percent have been incarcerated. To help these young people beat the odds, the LSC Transitional Living program provides case management and support services to address their immediate needs (food, clothing, housing); help them set and achieve goals (employment, education, financial stability); and build support networks to encourage them on their journey towards independence.
