Trinity Landing officially begins construction

After 38 years of planning and dreaming, Lutheran Services Carolinas is happy to announce that Trinity Landing, a waterfront senior living community in Wilmington, has begun construction. The project is slated to be complete in 2022.

On August 3, with site work under way since spring, the W.M. Jordan Company started building, and on August 6, LSC closed on $115 million in tax-exempt bank financing for Trinity Landing.

Located just south of Wrightsville Beach on the Intracoastal Waterway, Trinity Landing will consist of 184 units built in the initial phase of construction, followed by an additional 24 units in the project’s second phase. Geared to active senior living, amenities will include a waterfront pavilion and dock with boat slips and kayak launch; three restaurant venues; a wellness center featuring a saltwater pool and spa; walking paths, biking paths, and boardwalks; a dog park; an art studio; gathering rooms for clubs, meetings, and events; an auditorium; a salon and spa; and a library and media center.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has affected marketing efforts, the pivot to virtual tours has kept interest in Trinity Landing high, and the community is nearly 80 percent reserved, said Ann Pressly, director of marketing and sales for Trinity Landing. “Trinity Landing has already become a community, even without walls,” Pressly added.

The dream of Trinity Landing began 38 years ago with a donation of 30 acres of land on Masonboro Loop Road by Abba Lossen Crumpler and her niece Mae McFarland in memory of Captain Tom and Annette Lossen and their children. Crumpler was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilmington.

“Mrs. Crumpler would really be pleased,” said the Rev. Robert Q. Beard, who was president of LSC at the time the property was gifted in 1982. Subsequently, Beard negotiated the purchase of an additional 20 acres to complete the 50-acre Trinity Landing tract.

“LSC is a relational organization,” LSC President and CEO Ted Goins said. “This project would not have happened without the partnership of so many collaborators.  “The list includes LSC’s outside legal counsel Kevin McIntosh, SFCS Architects, financial advisor John Franklin, Truist Bank, First Citizens Bank, Atlantic Union Bank, W.M. Jordan Company, Love and Company, and many more! They join the LSC Board of Directors and teammates who have had the vision and determination to accomplish this major milestone in the history of LSC.”

Located near Trinity Grove, an LSC skilled nursing home, Trinity Landing will join Trinity Oaks in Salisbury, Trinity View in Arden, and Trinity Elms in Clemmons as an independent living option for seniors offered by Lutheran Services Carolinas, based in Salisbury, North Carolina.

Former LSC Board of Trustees chair and Trinity Landing’s first 10 percent depositor with wife Zan, Jerry Bramley said, “We look forward to residing in a secure and luxurious environment where daily needs and desires are provided, as well as the coastal activities and amenities that Trinity Landing will provide.”

Trinity Landing will allow Lutheran Services Carolinas to diversify to be able to continue serving populations who most need services, Goins said, including foster children, refugees, individuals with developmental disabilities, and elders who need assisted living and skilled nursing care.
