Former LSC/Trinity Village teammate Michael Harrison passed away on 5-4-24. Mike, Cheryl, and I went back a long way. We were not able to attend his memorial service, which we are proud and humbled to have held at Trinity Village. Life Enrichment Director Sharon Benfield shared Cheryl and my comments. Michael’s years of service and untimely passing warrants sharing his story publicly:
From the Gospel of Matthew, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
We are very sorry to not be able to attend the memorial service for Michael Harrison, to pay respects to him and the family. We go back to1997 with Mike. Cheryl hired him at the Brian Center in Hickory. They worked together there for about a year. They saw the world the same way and became very close. They bonded over a passion to keep their resident’s home super clean, and to treat their teammates with the utmost respect. Mike was a humble servant leader before that term became popular.
Michael moved over to Trinity Village in 1998 as the Director of Environmental Services. His passion, work ethic, humble and quiet leadership was a perfect match for Lutheran Services Carolinas’ The LSC Way! He kept the building clean, the linen and clothing washed, and was much beloved by residents and teammates. He took care of his people, working their shift if they needed to be off. Even after he retired, he came back to work for Trinity Village to continue his tradition of service.
Cheryl and I discussed Mike a number of times, and on hearing of his passing. We agreed we have never known such a kind, generous, hardworking person. He and his family will remain in our prayers. Michael Harrison will remain in our memory with this biblical blessing:
“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.” Amen
